학업과 커리어 배경의 간략한 소개입니다.

저는 현재 16년째 해외 생활중에 있습니다. 미국 인디애나 주립대학교에서 예술경영과 순수미술을 복수전공으로 졸업 하고, 세계적으로 저명한 예술품 경매회사 Sothebys 에서 설립한 Sotheby"s Institute of Art 대학원에서 Art Business를 전공했습니다.

뉴욕의 대표적인 미술관 Metropolitan Museum of Art 에서 인턴 활동을 했고, 현재는 다양한 글을 다루는 프리랜서 작가 겸 미술품 딜러로써 뉴욕 첼시에 위치한 갤러리, 컬렉터들과 협업하며 국내외 미술시장 속에서 빠르게 바뀌는 트렌드를 가장 가까이서 접하고있습니다.

아래에는 개념미술가 [Joseph Beuys. Fat for Heat, Felt for Warmth] 전시리뷰 일부분입니다.

*** Gallery located on the lower east side of Manhattan presented a still image from Beuys" 1965 performance, How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare, with some of the most influential works of his oeuvre. For the purpose of the performance, Beuys locked himself inside the gallery while having audiences outdoors to see the performance through the glass windows. He covered the face with honey and gold leaf, transforming himself into a sculpture and wore one shoe with felt on its sole and another with an iron sole. Beuys proceeded to explain each artwork to a dead hare in his arms. Every item incorporated in the performance was infused with a distinct purpose in its symbolism and literal significance. Honey implies the potential human capacity to nurture knowledge and understanding beyond the rational, and the dead hare embraces the phantasmagoria of the neglected intellectual realm and repentance in the history of humanity.

Beuys" performance encompasses almost all layers of his approach, from the very personal symbolic language, his interest in anthropology, psychology, philosophy, to the question of what function art should fulfill in our society. Thus, the performance is merely comprehended in a shallow, cerebral, and intellectual way. It interprets as a means to expand the sensorial perceptions and stimulates the inherent creativity. The term "understanding" applies as an elevation of essential creativity as the senses grow sharper, prosperous, and much more potent, that through intuition, inspiration, and imagination, the modern ideology develops beyond the intellectual realm.

Beuys imparts a succinct yet eclectic message through his artistic practice. He bemoaned the esoteric and commercial qualities of the art market in which the authoritarian and capitalist systems had become entrenched. The unconventional media such as felt, fat, copper cane, sled, and rabbit blood were deliberately selected to criticize the current systems in the art market and society. Beuys advocated that a pure mind incoherent with one"s interpretation exists within everyone. The underlying belief in the power of shamanistic perspective embodies the potential to revolutionize the mind that elevates to a transcendence of the present ideologies and social structures.
